safety in numbers

My bad taste in music has further degraded. Blame the kids. I can't say I hate their music. So right there I've compromised. I once took Zach to a Wiggles concert. 10,000 kids went nuts. Spiderman was just a cartoon. Star Wars was only a movie. Santa Claus turned out to be a fraud. But the Wiggles! There they were. They were real. And what a karaoke show they put on.
To my shame, several kids songs have penetrated the "I can put up with this" line, and crossed over into, "This ain't bad". I heard a song on Arthur. (A PBS kids show) I got up the nerve to ask my high school students if they liked the song. A tricky subject indeed. It's not something they're supposed to like in high school. And if they admit they've even HEARD the song, then it brings up the question, "What the hell were you doing watching Arthur?". Most classes pretended that they hadn't heard the song. Friggin liars. But the truth came out - and set them free. In one class, all hell broke loose. POA* led the charge. He got his classmates to come out of the Arthur music closet. No one could believe other people liked the song as well. There's safety in numbers. Here's the song:

When pressed, parents who have heard Ralph's World will admit they like Ralph. A couple of years back, I took the kids to a Ralph's World concert. (Ralph, if you're reading this, turn the damn amps down...it's a kids show you goof.) Lately, Ralph's getting major exposure on Playhouse Disney. When my kids see him on TV, they scream, "THAT'S OUR GUY!!!". They feel like they were totally O.G. on the Ralph's World bandwagon. As much as my kids love Ralph, they hate this song...and yet it always seems to appear on CDs that I burn for them. I've got problems, I know.
