Halloween

My parents’ church had a Halloween contest.  I won.  I dressed up as a politician and carried a sign that read “VOTE FOR ME”.  I was in second grade.  A few years later, the church got convinced that Halloween was pure devilry.  My parents agreed with the church.  I got screwed out of four years worth of trick-or-treating candy.

I read in the paper that some schools in Seattle won’t be celebrating Halloween.  One of their concerns is that the American way of celebrating Halloween is offensive to Wiccans.

Thankfully, I live in a town stuck in a time warp.  My kids have many prosperous years of trick-or-treating ahead of them.

I think polygamy and dancing naked around bon fires is offensive, but all of the Wiccans I know still celebrate Samhain (Halloween) that way. Some day I'll tell you that story...

Forget that! My son is going to be Jason from Friday the 13th and I'll be a zombie friend who he axe murdered, but who did not die. That may not be what All Souls Night is all about, but it sure is fun.
