Dreaming...

I have a dream.  Not like Dr. King.  Mine is selfish.  My dream:  Someone would make a mix CD for me.  Not random shit, but a CD in which someone considered each track, thinking about whether or not I would like each song, discarding music I might have heard before, and finally arriving at a mix that captures my attention throughout the disc.

It could happen.  I've made countless mixes for friends.  I can't be the only one...

I hear you on that one old man Neill, Ive probably made a few hundred mixes for people. Maybe only a handful with that painstaking commitment but I know what it entails. Ive maybe gotten one back, but I hear you. I was probably one of your least favorite students - and I probably would have felt the same way... but I think I always got where you were coming from.

One of my least favorite students?  No way.  You sold yourself on Ebay.  That alone cracked me up to no end.  The fact that you didn't give a damn about math never bothered me.  I don't know if anyone ever figured it out, but I never gave a rats ass about math either.

i can definately see where you are coming from. i too have made countless mix cds for too many people. the only two cds i have ever received from people is that frank black cd from you (awesome by the way) and a really crappy mix of wannabe punk artists.

Personally, I couldn't do it, not with your knowing your overall taste of music. Punk, It's on the fringe of what my tastes are. I don't listen to it often, more as a departure of what I listen to just for a change.

I've had a few people ask me about my musical tastes. Which are hard to explain. I like Opera, Classical, all sorts of "Rock" and even some pop and rap.

For the most part people ask about classical and I'll give 'em the intro on one CD and build it up after that. If they can grasp Beethoven. Then go to Bach, Vivaldi, perhaps some Tchaikovsky.

      So... whatchya whatchya want?

If you ask nicely I might even be able to get it before Sunday.

How about a rap CD.  That would be interesting.

For anyone else who wishes to make a dream CD for me, I am at:

551 Perry Highway (its not the kind of highway you're thinking of, but it is a damn busy street)

Don't think I wouldn't make you a CD, but I have low self esteem, and I just couldn't handle it if you thought my picks sucked.

I'm stalking you. You blog really well. I'll make you a mix. I would want to give myself a year of openminded listening to expand my database. But that won't happen because I downloaded a lot of music last year and I'm not through half of it. I rarely have the motivation to hear something new. If I gave you something now it would be mainstream pitchfork indie. I feel weak, i haven't eaten yet because I was going to cook eggs. Bye for now.

I'd like to make you a cd if I could.Although not sure what you would and would not like.I could definetly get you music you hadnt heard but not sure about your taste.

I remember we used to talk about music every now and then. I liked that you were one of the only teachers who had any idea who musicians/bands that I liked were, not that you always liked them too, but at least you knew who they were.

When you say mix cd, how mixed are you talking, like every song different genres or...?and how far off from your usual tastes do you think you would be interested in hearing?

I think both of us will be waiting awhile for that perfect mix tape because as it seems no one puts the effort into them they we so deserve!
